Bengali signboards must for shops
The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has decided to make it mandatory for all shops and business establishments in the city to put up signboards in Bengali besides other languages.
Interestingly, the Trinamul Congress-led civic board has revived the move that was proposed by the previous Left Front civic board. The decision was taken on the occasion of International Mother Language Day. It was learnt that the KMC will soon be approaching the businessmen and shop owners under all 141 wards of the KMC, requesting them to use Bengali on their signboards, along with other languages. The move is aimed at giving recognition to the Bengali language.
Mayor Sovan Chatterjee said: “We are aiming to make Bengali language mandatory for signboards in the city and ask businessmen to comply with the norms, otherwise face punishment.”
