Wife of Varappuzha sex scandal accused held
Aluva police on Tuesday arrested Lakshmi Prathap, wife of advocate Bimal Roy, an accused in the Varappuzha sex scandal case.
She was taken into custody for clicking the picture of the victim on her mobile phone. Police carried out the arrest after the Aluva first judicial magistrate Pooja PP issued a directive.
According to Aluva circle inspector S Jayakrishnan, Lakshmi clicked the images of the victim on the court premises.
Clicking of a picture on the court premises is banned. Lakshmi and Bimal, the 61st accused, were present before the court for an identification parade.
The victim identified Bimal. After the parade, Lakshmi clicked the pictures and caretaker of the victim noticed this.
She immediately alerted the magistrate and submitted a written complaint.
The magistrate recorded the complaint and asked the police to arrest Lakshmi.
She has been charged under the Information Technology Act, 2000, Kerala Police Act and Juvenile Justice Act.
Bimal of Thiruvananthapuram was granted bail by Kerala High Court last month. The lawyer had been was absconding for the last one year and he secured anticipatory bail from the court.
The girl was allegedly sold for `1 lakh by her parents to Shobha John last year in Thiruvananthapuram. Police had arrested the girl along with two others from Varapuzha.
