Wider panel should look into Kitex woes
Opposition leader V.S. Achuthanandan has demanded that a broad panel including the labour commissioner, the panchayat secretary and other officials be set up to study the issues relating to the Kitex Garments Ltd.
Recently, the company management had alleged lack of support from the UDF government and said it was dropping its Rs 262-crore expansion plan in Kochi, to instead set up an apparel park in Sri Lanka.
Achuthanandan, along with CPM district secretary M.V. Govindan and CITU secretary K. Chandran Pillai visited the company premises on Sunday. Later, he held discussions with Sabu and told the media it was.
However, the Opposition leader refused to comment on charges of pollution.
