Train services restored on Ernakulam Thrissur sector
A day after a layer of mud under the rail track in Chalakudy caved in, train services were restored on the Ernakulam-Thrissur sector on Saturday morning.
However, eight trains were cancelled while the timings of certain others were re-scheduled, making travel difficult for commuters.
“The layer of mud caved in at 3.30 p.m. on Friday while workers were trying to put large concrete blocks under the line for an underground passage.
We then initiated immediate action and over 100 workers were pressed into service. Traffic was restored by 8 a.m. on Saturday,” said Ernakulam area manager P.L. Ashok Kumar.
The Trivandrum-Chennai Express started at 4 p.m. instead of its scheduled departure time of 2.30 pm while the Kochuveli-Bangalore tri-weekly express commenced journey at 4 p.m., one hour behind schedule.
