Thrikkakara waste woes resolved
The Thrikkakara municipality, which had been clueless on solid waste management, can now dump the garbage at the Brahmapuram waste treatment plant of the Kochi Corporation.
The two local bodies, which were in a tiff over the use of the Brahmapuram facility, arrived at a consensus recently and signed a Memorandum of Understanding.
As per the agreement, the Thrikkakara municipal corporation can use the Brahmapuram facility. However, the local body should pay the fees of Rs550 for treating one tonne of garbage. The corporation is also paying the same amount to an agency for treating the refuse.
The corporation health committee authorities have asked the municipality to transport only segregated waste to the plant. It is estimated that the municipality will send four or five tonnes of refuse to Brahmapuram every day.
Earlier, the issue of waste management had resulted in an open fight between the two local bodies.
