Three priests elevated as monsignors
Three priests of the Ernakulam-Angamaly archdiocese of the Syro-Malabar Church have been elevated as monsignors by Pope Benedict XVI for their meritorious service to the church. They are Fr Sebastian Vadakku-mpadan, Fr Varghese Njaliyath and Fr Antony Punnassery.
While Fr Vadakkumpadan was given the title of ‘Prelate of Honour,’ the other two were honoured with the title ‘Enrolled Among His Chaplains.’
Fr Vadakkumpadan, former director of the Little Flower Hospital, Angamaly, is currently serving as vicar general of the newly-created Faridabad-Delhi diocese, a release by the church here said.
Fr Njaliyath, former chancellor of the archdiocese, is the vicar of Kuthiyathode church and Fr Punnaserry, also a former chancellor of the archdiocese and rector of the minor seminary, is the vicar of Kaipathur church.
They would be decorated with the titles at a function at St Mary’s Basilica Hall at 7 pm on September 19.
