Three hit by train die in two mishaps
A gatekeeper was hit by a speeding train on Thursday morning at the Kurrikad rail crossing near Tripunithura. In the evening of the same day, a family jumped before a train at Aluva, killing the mother and daughter.
K.P. Ramesh (42), an Engineering department Gate Keeper, was mowed down by the Hyderabad-bound Sabari Express (17229) at 11.30 am when he was walking along the track to reopen the gates.
In the second incident, a family leaped before a train at 6 pm in a suicide bid at Pulinchode near Aluva. The mother Sathi (42) and daughter Aswathi (15) were killed while father Devdas (46), suffered grievous injury.
A suicide note was recovered from the spot. “They were residents of Munambam (Valiaveethil Kolothukadavu) and the teenaged girl was a student of Vypeen School. “The letter says the girl has done something wrong. We’re not revealing the details,” police said.
