Teens, watch out while you vroom in style!
Motor vehicle inspectors have caught more than 400 teenagers for riding vehicles without licence and for other traffic offences during the last two weeks from various parts of the district.
As the summer vacations have started and increasing number of teens are hitting the road with fancy vehicles, unaware of traffic rules and throwing caution to winds, T.J. Thomas Regional Transport Officer, Ernakulam said “In the coming days, we are going to intensify the steps and form a squad to nab these teens-on-wheels and charge them and the vehicle owner with heavy penalty.”
“These under-18 riders are giving a headache to us, we caught more than 400 teenage drivers from various part of the district. Most of them were racing through the busy streets in their two-wheelers without wearing helmets and not obeying traffic rules. They are causing mishaps on roads,” said T.J. Thomas.
Till now they have not been slapping fined, but have been sending the offending teens0 for the one-day counselling class on traffic rules and safe driving and warning their parents about the dangers and consequences of letting their kids to hit the roads with vehicles.
The motor vehicle department officials and traffic authorities are blaming the parents for allowing their kids to hit the roads with vehicles before obtaining the driving license.
“Parents must be aware of the risks and dangers before gifting their kids with new motor cycle without a driving licence,” said Thomas.
