Team inspects Metro stations

In order to identify issues related to alignment, location and parking of the proposed metro rail stations, a high level team of Kochi Metro Rail Ltd, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, the district collector, revenue and land acquisition department officials inspected the proposed stations on Tuesday.
The team comprising KMRL managing director Tom Jose, collector P.I Sheikh Pareeth and DMRC project director P. Sreeram inspected 11 stations including the starting point at Aluva Terminal station and the mobility hub station.
The exercise will continue till the team complete all stations and is likely to be over by the end of the week. The KMRL has received many suggestions and complaints regarding the alignment and location of metro stations.
“According to directives from the ministry of urban development, there should be a seamless integration of travel infrastructure. We need to integrate various modes of transport to encourage people to use the public transport system.
We are also checking possibilities like combining metro stations with bus stops to allow hassle free travel for people,” said Tom Jose, managing director of KMRL.
The team also checked the possibility of more parking spaces without acquiring occupied land.
However a final decision on this will be taken only after receiving the report from the School of Management Studies, CUSAT. Earlier, metro authorities had entrusted CUSAT to prepare a feasibility study report on parking facilities at metro stations.
The team also visited the Vyttila mobility hub where a realignment of station from Vyttila junction to the mobility hub has been proposed.
Mr. Tom Jose held discussions with Dr. M. Beena, managing director of the Vyttila mobility hub society on the possibilities and hurdles of the new alignment. The team expressed confidence in making it a more effective hub with better connectivity.
