Tax officers raid five shops in Broadway
Five shops at Broadway in Kochi were raided on Tues-day by the intelligence wing of the Kerala Commercial Tax department for evading tax.
The shop owners protested and tried to stop the sleuths from raiding their shops. Police soon arrived on the scene and helped the officials conduct the raid.
Sources in the commercial tax department said the raid was conducted after complaints were received about readymade textile clothes shops in Broadway not paying taxes. No goods were seized by the sleuths, the sources said.
Another major drive agai-nst tax evaders in Kochi city has been planned.
“Most of the shops in the city do not record details of goods and sales. This needs to be dealt with and a major drive will be organised in the coming days,” said P.C. Joseph, the commissioner of commercial taxes department.
