Speed breaker leads to more accidents
Despite the rising number of accidents caused by the unscientifically built hump on the Infopark-Kakkanad Road near Surabhi Nagar, the public works department is yet to take any remedial action.
On Mon-day last, two people lost their lives here when their motorcycle was hit from behind by a bullet tanker.
There are no traffic signboards anywhere around. The Indian Road Congress stipulates that two signboards, one at 20 to 30 met-res and another, 10 metres away from the hump, are mandatory, besides reflectors at the place.
The large pothole near the hump was also another reason for the accidents, local residents pointed out.
“The hump was built by the PWD following the request of the Surabhi Residents Associa-tion to control the speed of vehicles. But this has now come as a curse”, said Geetha Murali, who lives near the accident spot.
Several political parties had organised protest marches against the pathetic condition of the road, but they had not made any impact on the PWD or the traffic police, she said.
