Special squads to remove billboards
The Emerging Kerala meet comes in handy for the city corporation to ensure that the city’s roads are not cluttered with illegal hoardings and banners.
The corporation’s town planning committee has formed four special squads to remove all billboards along the roadside and medians ahead of the Emerging Kerala meet.
The civic body which failed several times in initiating a successful drive to streamline billboards is using this opportunity effectively.
“We’ve launched an intensive three-day drive to remove all unauthorised billboards, banners and hoardings displayed on the medians and roadsides.
Several illegal banners and hoardings have been displayed on trees and in many parts of the city. All these will be cleared before the Emerging Kerala meet,” said K.J. Sohan, chairman of the town planning standing committee.
Earlier, mayor Tony Chammany asked concerned individuals and commercial establishments to take measures for the immediate removal of banners and billboards from every nook and cranny of the city. Those who fail to do so will be fined heavily, the mayor said.
