The central police team, that busted a Qatar-based sex racket with the arrest of three persons including a woman, suspects that more women might have trapped by the racketeers.

The police also suspects that the racket has more people based in Qatar and Singapore; however these details would only be found once the racketeers are interrogated further.

The trio that is remanded in judicial custody now would be sought by the police for a detailed questioning. The cops are set to file a petition before the court on Monday, seeking the custody of the racketeers. “There must be more people involved in the case. We will have more access about such information when these people are quizzed. We will seek the custody of the accused for at least a week,” said Ananthalal, the sub inspector of central police.

The racket was busted from a lodge in Kochi on Friday, following a cue from a victim from Idukky who was earlier taken to Qatar for prostitution by the racket. The arrested were identified as Shameema alias Shermi (28) of Kumily in Idukky, Shanawas alias Rafeeq (34) of Karunagappally in Kollam and Mujeeb (28) of Choondi near Aluva. They were busted just before their attempt to fly to Singapore to sell the victim there.

According to police, the 25-year old victim who is married and has three kids was taken first to Qatar last month after promising her a job as assistant beautician. Only later she came to know that she was being taken for prostitution. The racketeers took the victim for flesh trade for 13 days in Qatar, and returned to India when they found that the business was not profitable there. The racket then came to Kochi and was staying in the lodge in a bid to fly to Singapore to explore new sex markets.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
