Rs 50L package for sports
A series of schemes for sports development was packaged in the budget that set aside Rs 50 lakh for this.
The mayor’s trophy football tournament for city schools is one of the highlights and the budget also vowed to meet training and equipment expenses of the participating students.
The Corporation also announced Rs 10 lakh as initial outlay for setting up a sports training centre at the Elamkulam West Upper Primary School.
The mayor’s trophy tournaments for athletics and volleyball next year and similar tourneys for other disciplines the following year, apart from forming a ‘swimming for all’ scheme for school children are part of the proposals.
“Sports equipment will be distributed among school and vocational higher secondary students. Coaching camps in football, cricket, hockey and volleyball will be organised for school students,” the budget says.
