Prepare report on waterlogging
The state government has assigned district collector P.I. Sheikh Pareeth to prepare a detailed project proposal to solve the issue of waterlogging in the city.
At a meeting convened by chief minister Oommen Chandy in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday,
the collector was also asked to co-ordinate the project in association with various agencies including the Greater Cochin Development Authority, the Kochi corporation and Kochi Metro Rail Ltd.
Corporation works committee chairperson Soumini Jain who was also present said that though the Thevara-Perandoor (TP) canal was desilted recently, it had proved to be ineffective and hence there was a need to raise the level of the low-lying culverts which are part of the canal. This is because the culverts get easily clogged during monsoon, she said.
The corporation said the backwater mouth of the TP canal needed to be cleared.
It was also observed that utility cables and water pipelines passing through the canals hit the water-flow.
Deputy mayor B. Bhadra demanded that the government take steps to meet the fund gaps for the project.
Minister K. Babu, MLAs Benny Behanan, Dominic Presentation and Hibi Eden also attended the meeting.
