Poor infrastructure in Kochi drives away tourists
The Corporation of Kochi seems to have no foresight. I am a foreigner living in Kochi for the past 6 years.
I hear more and more tour operators are opting to promote other destinations in India because of the problems here.
Tourists leave Kochi disgusted by the poor infrastructure, which inc-ludes the roads and the traffic chaos, along with the problems of waste disposal among others.
We all had great hopes after last corporation elections that things would change for better.

People betrayed by authorities
The news item on the condition of roads in Kochi Corporation area is apt and a reminder to the authorities who never act and ignore the public.
The present rulers of the corporation came to power by highlighting the poor condition of the roads during the previous administration.
People who voted them to power have been betrayed and they proved that they are no less than the erstwhile rulers.
Last year exactly during the same period, many members of the public kept on urging the Corporation authorities for almost 6-7 months to repair the Chitt-oor road at Ayyapankavu, Pachalam and Vaduthala. But they ignored the requests.

Digging spree by KSEB, KWA
Of late, the KSEB and KWA have engaged in a ‘digging spree’. The once beautiful roads have disappeared and in their place stand the new excavated mess.
Roads in Panampilly Nagar and other places now stand a testimony to it. It’s a pity that nothing has been done so far in this regard.
In spite of the works being completed they have failed to undo the mess that they had created. This will only multiply the commuters’ woes with the onset of monsoon. Hope the corporation will do something useful in this regard.

Readers' response invited
Is it not the duty of the Kochi Corporation to ensure that the roads in the city remain motorable? With just a 10 days left for the schools to reopen and the monsoon to begin, what do you feel the authorities need to do in this regard.
How many of the roads in your locality are in a bad condition? We invite readers to express their grievances and impressions in this regard. We will publish them. Send your write-ups to the email kochiresponse@deccanmail.com
