PM to kick off Emerging Kerala
A galaxy of more than 2,500 delegates, including US ambassador Nancy Powell, UK high commissioner Sir James Bevan, and business teams from across 52 countries would grace the Emerging Kerala investor meet that will be opened here on Wednesday by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
Delegates have begun arriving here, and the state machinery is going full steam ahead to make a success of the endeavour. The presence of big teams from within and abroad is indication the global financial turmoil will not play spoil sport, according to chief minister Oommen Chandy.
The three-day meet showcasing the strengths of the state would see deliberations on how to catapult the state to a new level of development. Chandy has already stated that while projects would emerge from the meet, the government would deliberate on each of them before giving the go-ahead.
On Wednesday, the full Cabinet team with the chief secretary and state planning board vice-chairman would sit with Prime Minister Singh to discuss steps that would give a push to the state’s development plan.
As a prelude, Chandy held a one-on-one with the US Ambassador earlier in the day. On Tuesday, it was literally the government moving into the city. The entire cabinet and a whole lot of bureaucrats are buzzing around, as the government literally functions from here for three days.
