Panel gives Mar Clemis last chance to present his case

The panel probing complaints against Kuriakose Mar Clemis, the former Idukki Metropolitan of the Malankara Jacobite Syrian Church, will give him one more chance to present his case.

“Mar Clemis failed to present himself before the panel on two previous occasions. He will be given one more chance to present his case,” panel convener Metropolitan Joseph Mar Gregorios told DC on Tuesday.

Mar Clemis is facing the allegations of financial misappropriation to the tune of Rs 5 crore and also of personal misconduct for giving accommodation to two nuns ousted from a convent of the church.

The panel is also looking into Mar Clemis’ charge that he had paid a bribe of Rs 3 crore to some church officials to become a bishop.

Meanwhile, the Patriarch of Antioch withdrew the letter of permission granted to Mar Clemis to officiate as a bishop of the church.
