Opposition leader seeking to correct party: Appukuttan
The crisis in the CPM has reached a critical stage witnessing a “massive erosion” in its credibility among the people, according to straggler and political analyst Appukuttan Vallikunnu.
And Achuthanandan’s present move, seeking changes in state leadership, “is a last-ditch effort to correct the party.”
It, he said, should be read with VS’ earlier comment on the Communist Party split in 1964.
“He is the last of the surviving leaders who walked out of the national council to form the CPM at a time when the public perception was against the official party leadership. In the present situation where people believe the party cadre has a role in the murder of T.P. Chandrasekharan, the party’s attempt to stand by them will only isolate the leadership. And sensing this, VS wants the central leadership to intervene and mend the ways of the state leadership,” he said.
As per the party constitution, anyone doing a wrong should be removed from the party. This had been done on several occasions, but not happening now, literally fooling the public. In such circumstances, it’s natural the central party leadership steps in, he said.
