Now, netizens help in police probe
In a one-of-its-kind incident, Facebook users joined hands with the Kerala police on Tuesday, to identify a Scorpio car, mounted with a rooftop camera, which was found in Kochi under strange circumstances.
The police shared the image of the vehicle on their Facebook group and FB freaks who were online went in search of the Scorpio.
SP, Internal Security, J. Jayanath, who heads the netizen police group on FB posted the info: “One Scorpio car (MH 02 BZ 8288) is seen in Kochi, probably capturing street views for Google.
Please call 100 if you spot that vehicle. The legality of its operation is not clear”. The police suspected that the vehicle was conducting a survey without prior sanction.
The police was tipped off by Rajith Renjith Ramachandran and the search yielded results within two hours.
The cops seized the vehicle and after verification found that it belonged to the Kochi Metro corporation and the vehicle was being used in the alignment study.
Considering the development and the time consumed for the ‘operation’, Nishad Veliath posted: “Sir, everything happened with lightning speed”.
To his FB followers the SP responded: “Netizen police is going to change the way KP works. Let’s all try hard, JJ”.
And the reward Rajith Renjith Ramachandran got for his laudable effort? He is the admin of the Kerala Police’s Facebook group.
