New walkway on a fast lane
The second phase of the walkway under construction at Marine Drive will be opened on December 20.
The work on the 700-m long new walkway stretching up to the Goshree Bridge is nearing completion, said N. Venugopal, chairman of the Greater Cochin Development Authority.
“The works of the new walkway and the Kettuvallam’ bridge connecting the existing and new stretches of the walkways are progressing. Lighting and cabling works have already been completed. The tiling work will start next week”, said Venugopal.
The Kettuvallam Bridge, opposite to the Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute, will be the new attraction of Marine Drive, one of the most popular public spaces and walkways in the city.
The GCDA is also planning to open two food courts along the new stretch of the walkway. The length of the existing walkway is 2.15 km and the Rainbow Bridge and the Chinese net bridge are a part of it.
Meanwhile, the GCDA is going ahead with its other projects connected with the second phase development of Marine Drive.
The GCDA chairman will hold the next round of discussions with the representatives of the Singapore Dolphin Park next week, regarding the setting up of a Dolphin Park in Kochi.
