‘NDF activists’ attack restaurant owner
A hotel owner sustained serious injuries when a group of NDF activists attacked him at Vaniyakkad in Paravoor, around 20 km from here. Reports say that personal enmity was the reason for the attack.
The victim, Abdul Nazer, 42, was on his way home after offering prayers at the Vaniyakkad Mosque early on Tuesday morning, when a man signaled him to stop his scooter under the pretext of asking him for directions to a place nearby.
Suddenly, six more people swooped down on him and attacked him with swords and steel pipes, police said.
The assailants fled from the scene leaving behind a profusely bleeding Nazer who rang up the cops from his mobile phone.
Acting on the details provided by the victim, the cops identified two of the gang members, Shihab and his brother Ayoob, both NDF workers, who are also Nazer’s relatives.
“Personal enmity seems to have been the provocation for the attack. The accused had earlier threatened the victim, charging that he had been spreading rumours about them,” a police official said.
Meanwhile, the Popular Front said it had no connection with the gruesome incident.
