M.M. Mony may be arrested soon
The special investigation team probing the Anchery Baby murder is planning to arrest former CPI (M) Idukki district secretary M.M. Mony after he was listed second accused on Monday.
The SIT submitted a list of three accused before the first class judicial magistrate court at Nedumk-andam. Mony’s close associate and former local committee secretary at Sant-hanpara, O.G. Madanan is the third accused.
The first accused, Pampumpara Kuttan, also a party activist, was alleged to have led the gang of assailants and threw a bomb to create scare before hacking Baby, a local Congress activist, on November 13, 1982.
In another development, the Supreme Court hearing Mony’s plea to squash the FIR against him adjourned the case for three weeks. This was after Mony’s cou-nsel sought time to reply to the Government affidavit.
All the accused in the previous murder case had been already acquitted by a court for want of evidence. It was following Mony’s May 25 controversial ‘kola-veri’ speech, claiming killings were on the basis of a party list that government decided to re-investigate the case.
The current case against Mony was slapped on May 28. Later, SIT questioned him and decided to frame charges under Section 109 (abetment of crime) and 118 (concealing design to commit an offence) of the IPC against him.
