Mild tremors in Thrissur, Kollam districts
Three mild terrors were felt in Thrissur and Kollam on Thursday afternoon. While the first in Thrissur was at 3.02 pm and of 3.2 magnitude on the Richter scale, the second was felt an hour later and the third of 2.6 magnitude felt at 4.56 pm. There was no casualty or damage.
The epicenter of the quake was about 3 km north-west of Thanikudam near Viyyoor. An official of the Centre for Earth Science Studies, Peechi, said, “The tremors were felt in areas like Pravattani, Athani and Wadakkanchery and went unnoticed because of its low intensity.’’
In Kollam, too, there were three tremors at Kalluvathukkal village and nearby areas at 11.55 am, noon and 1 pm. The tremors were an after-effect of the earthquake in the Gulf of California, Mexico,” said IMD scientist M.S. Pillai.
