Metro man’s nod for four-lane road project
The chief adviser to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, E. Sreedharan, has given the nod, in principle, to the proposed Moolampilly-Chathanad four lane road project.
The metro man who came for an inspection of the site for the proposed bridges in the stretch here on Monday, made it clear that if the Goshree Islands Development Authority (GIDA) will not acquire the land for the project immediately, DCRC would not associate with it. Sreedharan asked the district collector to take necessary steps for immediate land acquisition.
The former managing director of DMRC and a team of officials and MLAs set out in a speed boat from the boat jetty near Taj Gateway by 9.30 in the morning.
The team consisting of MLAs Hibi Eden, V.D Satheesan, S. Sarma, district collector P.I Sheikh Pareeth, DMRC project director P. Sreeram, and GIDA town planner Shaji, inspected the sites where the DMRC has agreed to construct three bridges.
According to Sreedharan, what makes the DMRC interested in the project is the fact that it already had the approval of the state government and GIDA has the funds. “If land is handed over soon, construction of the bridges can be completed in three years,” he said.
Later, the three MLAs told newsmen that they were in unison about the project and were more interested in it than the much hyped Kochi metro rail. “The project will certainly help in developing the islands,” they said.
The project for a four-lane road connecting the islands of Moolampilly, Pizhala, Valiya Kadamakkudi and Chathanad was approved at a meeting of the GIDA in January and the authority had sent a letter to DMRC seeking its support in constructing the new road.
