Menaka first to get hi-tech bus shelter
As part of the state government’s initiative to set up modern bus shelters at major bus stops along PWD roads in the city, a hi-tech bus shelter has been inaugurated at Menaka.
The bus shelter with modern facilities like surveillance cameras, facilities for first aid, FM radio and a mobile charging facility has been built by a private agency called Metro Innovations.
The bus shelter was inaugurated on Saturday by PWD minister V.K. Ebrahim Kunju. Five more such shelters will be set up at major bus stops in the city by Metro Innovations. The cost of setting up the shelter was Rs 6 lakhs.
“Shelters will be built and maintained on a sponsorship basis. The PWD and corporation authorities have given agreed to set up five more such shelters in the city.
We have plans to replace the old dilapidated bus shelters in various places in the city. These bus shelters with modern, aesthetic, commuter and environment-friendly looks will be in tune with the changing character of the metro city,” said K.A. Hussain Kutty, executive partner of Metro Innovations.
The sponsoring agency will meet the monthly expenses of running the shelter from advertisement revenues. “Like other metros in the country, the city also needs beautiful, uniquely designed hi-tech bus shelters,” added Hussain Kutty.
Earlier, the corporation town planning committee had set up a hi-tech, modern bus shelter on MG Road. The construction work was tendered by the civic body and the bus shelter was designed and constructed by Aishwarya Advertising Industries.
Hibi Eden MLA, GCDA chairman N. Venugopal, district collector P.I. Sheikh Pareeth and corporation health standing committee chairman T.K. Ashraf also attended the inaugural function.
