MCA prof. jumps from bridge, dies
A senior professor at a technology institute here committed suicide by jumping from the Goshree Bridge at 2.30pm on Sunday. He was Praveen Sivadas, 38, head of MCA department at the Federal Institute of Science and Technology.
A resident of Vidya Nagar colony in Kalamassery, Praveen was mentally unstable for the past few days. He had gone to the college on Sunday morning to attend a progra-mme.
However, he sho-wed discomfort at the college and the other staff brought him back to his flat at Kalamas-sery. He was then tak-en to his father’s house at Ernakulam North.
It is learnt that Praveen had first gone to Ernakulam North Bridge in a bid to commit suicide. But he could not, as there were several people walking by.
“He then went to the Goshree Bridge and committed suicide. We were informed by the people who saw him jumping off the bridge,” said the police.
Praveen had been teaching at FISAT since 2006. He leaves his wife Rashmi and children Parvathy and Pranav.
