Lesser students opting for state syllabus
The number of students pursuing state syllabus in Ernakulam district has come down compared to the previous year.
According to the office of the deputy director of education, the total number of government, aided and unaided students is 2,99,550 this year compared to 3,19,198 last year. Of this, 1,51,108 are boys and 1,48,442 girls.
There is a massive drop of 14,670 students in aided schools alone. In the previous year the strength in the aided school was 2,22,986 but this year it is merely 2,08,316.
The government and unaided school reported a loss of 3,924 and 1,054 respectively. The first standard class has a total strength of 21,261 students, which includes 10,562 boys and 10,699 girls. The strength of students was 22,387 in 2011.
The counting of students was done by respective heads of the institutions. This is the first time the counting was carried out by school heads.
