Lease of land to jeweller illegal: HC
The Kerala High Court on Monday upheld a government order cancelling the lease agreement with the Kerala Film Chamber of Commerce over a piece of land on M.G.Road in Kochi.
Justice C.T. Ravikumar passed an order when a Kochi-based jewellery owner and the Kerala Film Chamber of Commerce moved the court challenging the cancellation of the lease agreement on the ground that the chamber had sub-leased the building to the jewellery shop.
The chamber contended that the government had no authority to take over the land as the land belonged to the Kochi corporation as per law.
However, the court rejected the contention and observed that the corporation was not even a party in the case and flayed the petitioners for raising such contentions.
The court held that the sub-lease entered between the chamber and the jewellery owner was illegal.
