Land acquisition to end by November
The district administration now hopes to complete the land acquisition process for the Kochi metro project by November as the revenue commissioner has given accord to the acquisition under the emergency clause.
“We hope to complete the process in one or two months before the earlier target of November. The 4 (1) notification under the Land Acquisition Act will be out next week and then we will directly resort to the advance possession of land as the collector has the power to bypass other procedures like complaint hearing, declaration and the likes,” deputy collector, land acquisition, Mohandas Pillai said.
Around 32 hectares of land will be taken over from nearly 600 owners, including 60 houses and 100 commercial buildings.
The land to be acquired includes those for metro stations and parking spaces for 22 stations from Aluva to Pettah.
“The land owners will initially be awarded 80 per cent compensation. We’ve already completed the survey for Muttam yard and the parking spaces at metro stations, the official said
