Kochi Metro sets perfect pace
It’s good news for two and three wheelers commuting daily to the direction of Kaloor from the city, as the reconstruction of the North RoB side-bays will be completed and in all likelihood opened for traffic by August, a month ahead of schedule.
“Currently, the reconstruction is progressing at a fast pace and is ahead of schedule. We expect the two-lane side-bays at both sides of the RoB to be opened by August. By Monday night, the placing of girders, except over the rail track, will be completed”, a metro official told Deccan Chronicle.
The DMRC (Delhi Metro Rail Corporation) will soon write to the Railways seeking permission to effect a line block, that is, regulation of train services, so as to facilitate work on the central portion. “We will use longer steel girders in the central portion of the side-bays,” the official said.
A total of 12 girders are left to be placed while the construction of pillars and retaining walls are over. Each of the side-bays has dual carriage capacity and when it’s thrown open to traffic, all vehicles will be channeled through them.
The smaller works like the completion of approach roads at both sides and the surfacing of the girders, remain to be completed.
“Once the side-bays are opened for traffic, the work will be stopped for one month to facilitate the trail run. Then the demolition of the main RoB will be taken up”, the official added.
