Kochi to have shows underground
Like other metros in the country, Kochi is soon to have a big underground exhibition centre.
The Greater Cochin Development Authority proposes to set up the centre on 12 acres near the Jawaharlal international stadium. The estimated cost for the centre with 1.5 lakh square feet area, is nearly Rs 80 crore.
GCDA chairman N. Venugopal told newsmen that the Authority would soon invite designs from professional architects for the exhibition centre to be set up at international standards.
“The centre will be designed in such a way that four major exhibitions can be organised at a time. It will also have shops and food courts,” he added.
The exhibition centre is one of the top priorities of the recently appointed GCDA chairman.
The city, featured by hundreds of trade shows and exhibitions every year, badly needs a permanent centre for the purpose, according to Venugopal.
The GCDA will announce its other projects after the seminar on Vision 2030.
Meanwhile, work on ongoing projects like the Thevara-Thykoodam bund road, harbor bridge renovation and beautification of the marine drive are progressing smoothly, he added.
