Jayarajan gets Onam reprieve
Kerala high court on Monday granted bail to Kannur CPM secretary P. Jayarajan in the sensational Shukoor murder case in which he is the 32nd accused.
“The investigation of the case has been completed and the final report filed, and hence continued detention of Jayarajan is not required,” the court held.
The vacation bench of the court, of Justice Babu Mathew P. Joseph, granted the bail and directed Jayarajan to furnish a bond of Rs 25,000 with two solvent sureties.
It also directed that Jayarajan should not directly or indirectly threaten any individual connected with the case and he should also not influence the witnesses.
The court refused to accept the contentions of the state and rejected the state plea to restrain Jayarajan from entering Kannur district.
Accepting Jayarajan’s plea for an immediate release, the court asked the registry to communicate the order to the respective magistrate court so that the petitioner could be released on Monday itself.
Jayarajan argued that the investigating team had filed the charge sheet against 33 accused on various charges including murder, but no murder charge had been registered against him.
Jayarajan was charged under section 118 (concealing a design to commit offence punishable with death or imprisonment for life) of the IPC.
