IOC blames transporters for shortage
The Indian Oil Corporation has admitted that bulk LPG supply across the state has been disrupted and blamed transports for this as they were refusing to transport cylinders in the wake of strict measures initiated after the Chala tanker mishap.
“LPG transporters are refusing to go to Mangalore and Kochi on account of alleged assault on LPG truck crew, levy of heavy penalty even for minor violations, public objections to park vehicles on the nominated areas en-route, restrictions on day driving etc,” a dompany spokesperson said.
The disruption in bulk LPG supplies to bottling plants in the state had resulted in many LPG bottling plants going dry.
This had affected LPG cylinder supply to the public. If this situation continued, the backlog in refill supplies was expected to build up in some markets of the state in the coming days, he added.
Meanwhile, refusal by transport contractors to carry bulk LPG supplies has led to build up of huge stocks in the Kochi refinery and the authorities are mulling considerable reduction in refinery output.
The closure of the IOC bottling plant here by the explosives department and the inspector of factories and boilers is also affecting availability of cylinders to the consumers of plant-fed areas.
