IG suspends former SI for aiding accused

Ernakulam Inspector Ge-neral K. Padmakumar on Monday suspended suspended sub-inspector V.C. Mathew who earlier served at Njarakkal and allegedly helped a molest case accused. The decision was on the basis of a report submitted by Superintendent of Police K.P. Philip. The IG has also initiated a departmental inquiry aga-inst assistant SI Chandran, in the same case.

Sources said that Mathew helped Edavanakkad Hida-yathul Islam HS teacher V.A. Ibrahim Madani get away though he was accused of molesting a high-school boy. The report also says the SI had failed to mark the boy’s petition correctly. He was earlier transferred to Idukki. The Njarakkal CI is probing the case now.
