Hotel association to sue newspaper
Kerala Hotel and Restaurants Association (KHRA) has threatened to sue a leading English newspaper for publishing the names of hotels, which were slapped with notices by the corporation for serving stale food and flouting hygienic standards.
“We’ll soon serve a legal notice on the newspaper”, KHRA general secretary Jos Mohan said. Notices were issued on hotels, which kept their freezers and kitchen premises unclean and didn’t ensure proper drainage system.
“The notice was not issued for selling stale food. So, it was not proper to publish the names of the hotels”, he argued. However, he parried the question whether clean food could ever come out of unclean kitchen.
The corporation had listed out the names of hotels that were found selling stale food in its press release and also that the raids were conducted by its health squad.
Jose said the corporation health squad is not empowered to inspect or seize the food prepared in the hotels.
