Gazetted post for KSRTC drivers
The Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) plans to introduce the post of Vehicle Mobility Officer, first suggested by Balakrishna Pillai during his brief term as transport minister in the A.K. Antony government in 1995.
The decision, taken during the on-going negotiations between the employees’ trade unions and the management, has cheered drivers unhappy with the lack of promotional avenues in the corporation. “It will be the topmost post for drivers, above that of vehicle supervisor and head supervisor.
There will be three such posts in the state and appointments will be made at the zonal-level,” says a senior KSRTC officer.
Pointing out that in the past employees who worked for decades retired without getting promotions with monetary benefits, he says the corporation first introduced the vehicle supervisor and head supevisor posts to remedy the situation. “And now with one more post introduced, the drivers’ should have fewer complaints,” he adds.
It has also been decided to directly recruit drivers to the 2nd grade post, said the officer.
