Four city hotels get show cause
If you thought only eating in small hotels and wayside eateries could be unsafe, you had better think again as the health squad of the Maradu municipality which raided elite hotels found they were using stale rice, chicken and ingredients in their cooking.
Four hotels were issued show cause notices for serving stale and poor quality food and the inspection team led by municipal secretary, S. Jayakumar seized stale rice, chicken, pickle, pulses, fruits, chocolate rolls and ajinomoto from their kitchens.
Officials said they would recommend filing of criminal cases against hotels that were raided similarly in the past.
Meanwhile, the health squad of the city corporation which inspected various hotels in the city, ordered the closure of a hotel on TD East Road where it found septic tank waste flowing near the kitchen area. The raids will continue for the next few days, according to Mr T.K Ashraf, health standing committee chairman.
The health squad of the Aluva municipality, which raided 13 hotels in Aluva town, ordered the closure of three and seized stale and poor quality food from nine hotels.
