Fedo to face action for plant failure
The city corporation has decided to file a case against Fact Engineering and Design Organisation (FEDO) for the technological failure of the Brahmapuram solid waste treatment plant. The agency was the technical consultant of the corporation for the waste treatment plant.
Mayor Tony Chammany has recommended legal action against the company for the failure of the plant. According to him, it was the technical shortcoming of the agency which resulted in the plant’s malfunction.
FEDO, the corporation authorities say, is responsible for the breakdown of the plant and it should pay the cost spent for setting up the plant.
The corporation will soon initiate steps to file a case against FEDO in the district court.
The corporation council meeting held on Friday approved the mayor’s recommendation.
Earlier, the civic body had entrusted the agency with the task of supervision and certification of the waste treatment plant.
“We had approached FEDO, an internationally recognized engineering consultancy, for technical advice, as the corporation has no highly qualified engineers or experts.
For this, the agency charged retaining fees from the corporation,” said K.J. Sohan, chairman of the town planning standing
committee.
