Fate of water project undecided
The meeting convened by water resources minister P.J. Joseph on Saturday, to resolve the issues relating to the proposed Piravom drinking water project, failed to take a final decision.
The minister has asked the district collector to convene another meeting with representatives of local bodies and members of the expert committee on April 27 to take a final decision regarding the trenching of Piravom-Ernakulam main road to lay pipelines.
Earlier, the expert committee appointed by the state had submitted a report stating that the original route proposed for the pipelines was the only feasible one.
During the meet, the local body representatives came up with the plea that other routes too be considered. Despite several rounds of discussion, the meeting failed to reach a consensus.
Ministers Anoop Jacob, K. Babu, MLAs Hibi Eden, Dominic Presenta-tion, Benny Behanan, Ludy Louis, mayor Tony Chammany and KWA officials were also present.
