Engine oil worth Rs 2L stolen from port

Engine and hydraulic oil worth more than Rs 2 lakh was found stolen from the Cochin Port Trust on Wednesday.

According to port officials, the oil stored in six barrels and meant for the floating crane was stacked in the port workshop.

The oil appears to have been stolen under the cover of the heavy rain over the last few days. The matter was noticed only on Wednesday and reported to the police.

Since many boats and cranes operate in the area, finding buyers for the stolen stuff is easy, say police.

This is not the first instance of such robbery from the port since oil and ship ropes have been found missing earlier.
