Dug up Kochi roads to be tarred again
Stung by criticism from all quarters, the corporation will now convene a meeting with top officials of the Kerala Water Authority, to restore the roads dug up in the city, to its normal tarred state.
During the council meeting on Thursday, mayor Tony Chammany said the corporation would take up the matter with the KWA and would ensure that all roads dug up for the KSUDP (Kerala Sustainable Urban Development Project)-funded pipeline re-laying works are restored at the earliest.
Opposition councillor K.V. Manoj alleged that all roads in city outskirts like Edappally, Elamakkara and Vennala, are in a bad shape as the KWA has not taken any steps to repair them.
The corporation’s negligence in completing the pre-monsoon cleaning drive took centrestage at the council debate. While admitting its failure, the mayor said that measures would be taken to finish the rest of the work on a war-footing.
To sort out the issues related to land acquisition for the proposed sewage treatment plant at Elamkulam, the mayor will convene an all-party meeting, the council was informed.
Opposition councillors K.V Manoj and N.A Shafeeq demanded more clarity on land acquisition procedures associated with the project.
Other issues debated were delay in settling welfare pension applications and lack of proper lighting at Edappally RoB and Chathyath Road.
