Of the previous nine elections held in the constituency, the LDF had won three and UDF the remaining ones. In the last election in 2011, the UDF candidate, Mr T.M. Jacob, had won by just 157 votes.
Both the UDF and LDF camps expressed hopes of a victory this time. The UDF candidate, Mr Anoop Jacob, visited Cardinal George Alencherry on Tuesday and also met campaign workers.
LDF candidate M.J. Jacob spent the day meeting party workers and visiting election offices. BJP candidate K.R. Rajagopal is also hopeful of improving the tally from the 4,000 odd votes polled in 2011.
