Crime branch takes Thadiyantavide Nazeer into custody
The crime branch team probing the Kizhakkambal-am robbery case, involving suspected Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) activists, took suspected LeT operative Thadiyantavide Nazeer into custody. Nazeer is said to be the mastermind behind the case.
The crime branch had approached the CBI special court on Monday and sought the custody of Nazeer in a bid to get more evidence in the case.
The court said that the crime branch could keep Nazeer in custody for four days and that he should be sent back to the Ernakulam sub jail on Friday morning. Nazeer has been staying in the sub jail in connection with the Vagamon SIMI camp case.
The court has ordered that Nazeer can consult his lawyer every day during the interrogations. Howev-er, Nazeer is not responding positively to crime branch interrogations, say sources. The police said they were expecting a breakthrough in the case based on Nazeer’s responses in the coming days.
The crime branch had recorded the arrest of Nazeer last Thursday on charges of planning the Kizhakkambalam robbery and leading the nine-member gang that attacked jewellery shop owner, Mathew John.
