Coir expo promises to enthral city

Kochi will have a different experience for five days from this Sunday with a host of cultural events lined up during the International Coir Expo-2012 being organised by the Coir Board at the Marine Drive.

The expo will showcase the inventions, machineries and products in the coir sector over the past 25 years.

An international seminar on ‘Coir-futuristic technologies – Vision 2020’ on the second day is a highlight of the event, which will be attended by Prof Alicides Lopes Leao from Sao Paulo University, Brazil, Mr Trevor W.D. Dean, consultant, Zelfo Technology, UK and Dr Maziah Mohammed from Malaysia.

The cultural fiesta each evening includes dance performance by Lekshmi Gopalaswamy and a coir fashion show (Sunday), the Great Indian Rope Trick by magician Samraj (Monday), a tribute to Mohammed Rafi by Soorya Krishnamoorthy (Tuesday), ‘Sangamam’, a fusion by Soorya Krishnamoorthy (Wednesday) and a stage show by Kalasangham from Tamil Nadu (Thursday).
