Citizen security trials from June 1
If you think you have the guts to fight fire, willpower to counter a disaster and willingness to run risks, you are the person Kochi police is looking for!
‘Citizens for Security’, the novel initiative launched by the Kochi city police is looking for brave and bold people, especially young Turks, who are ready to contribute to the security of the metropolis.
Sources said the selection trials of the project will be held at the conference hall of West Traffic police station near High Court on June 1 and 2.
However, the trials will not be as tough as that of the regular police force, said sources.
The police is expecting a huge turnout for the trials as ‘Citizens for Security’ will offer a rare opportunity for khaki-aspirants to be part of city policing and disaster management duties.
According to the plan, the project will take the service of 1,300 Kochiites, who will be divided into 26 groups of 50 people each.
“This is completely a voluntary programme. Members of the project will be given training in disaster management skills and rapid action techniques,” said the Inspector General of Central Zone, K. Padmakumar.
Muhammed Rafique, the Assistant Commissioner of Traffic, who heads the programme, said that the idea has already generated a great deal of public interest and response.
“Several people have come forward to volunteer. More people are expected to join the groups soon,” he told DC.
The training programme will be held in the second week of June, sources said. The project was earlier inaugurated by home minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, during the ‘Safe Kochi, Secure Kochi’ review meeting held at IMA hall on Friday.
