CIAL to offer visa on arrival facility
The Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) has agreed to provide space for the launch of the visa-on-arrival facility.
To a query from the ministry of external affairs, the CIAL managing director V.J. Kurien is understood to have agreed to provide space at the earliest.
Officials said that the project would be of immense use to the state which banks on tourism for a significant portion of its revenues.
A total of 67 foreign nationals were turned down at the Kochi airport last year alone. However apart from space, the required number of personnel has also to be deployed for the smooth functioning of the facility, they said.
Currently India has an agreement with 11 countries in Europe and the Far East to issue visas on arrival. No airport in Kerala has the facility as of now to issue visas on arrival and once implemented, Kochi will join the big league of airports in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata which offer the facility.
