Cardinal reads pastoral letter on telescreen
The Syro Malabar Church on Sunday broke with a tradition as Cardinal Mar George Alencherry appeared on telescreens across its parishes in Ernakulam-Angamaly archdiocese during the Mass to deliver a pastoral letter.
The practice till now was for the parish priest to read out the pastoral letter issued by bishops. Church sources said CDs of the pastoral letter were delivered in churches by Saturday to enable the video screening of Cardinal giving the recorded message.
The novelty was given a chance as the message was basically intended for children. “As children give more attention to a televised message, we thought about this,” said Fr. Paul Thelekat, spokesman of the church.
While his message stressed on the importance of Sunday catechism classes, the Cardinal also asked priests not to conduct marriages in churches till 12 noon as this would be a distraction for the classes.
