Buses coming to Kochi to enter Hub
In a relief to commuters, soon buses coming to Kochi from outside stations like Kottayam and Alapuzha too will enter the Vytilla Mobility Hub.
Currently, the buses coming to the city are skipping the Hub, the second phase construction of which is progressing.
This leaves commuters no choice but to walk the 500 meters to the hub to catch buses to interior parts of the city.
“To facilitate this, the Hub exit would be widened. We’ve already held talks with the Hub officials. It has been decided to acquire the land belonging to a temple trust for the purpose,” a top official in the Regional Transport Office said.
Meanwhile, following complaints that many private buses are not adhering to the punching system introduced recently, the hub authorities are thinking of penal actions, including fine, to ensure success of the measure.
“Currently, the system is being implemented on trial basis and we’ve given two months time for things to fall in place. After that we’ll resort to strict measures to ensure that all buses enter the Hub and are punctual,” Vytilla Mobility Hub MD M. Beena said.
Also, the timings of nearly 500 private buses plying through the city are set to change after they asked the Regional Transport Officer to take into account the extra time required to cover the hub.
