Body-builder held for vehicle thefts
A body-builder, who turned out to be the member of an inter-state car and two-wheeler theft racket, was nabbed by the Aluva police on Sunday.
‘Jimman Prasad’ alias Prasad, 39, was taken into custody from Thattampadi Junction along the Aluva-Paravoor road.
A Qualis car, apparently stolen, with a fake registration number, was also seized.
The accused was interrogated and the cops succeeded in recovering six more vehicles based on his statements.
“The gang used to steal vehicles from various parts of the state and take them to Tamil Nadu. Once there, they made fake RC books and converted them into Tamil Nadu registration vehicles.”
“They would then bring the vehicles back to Kerala and sell them to the liquor lobby and others. They even obtained an NOC for such vehicles”, a police official said.
He said that Prasad has admitted to the crimes.
At least 50 cases are pending against the accused in Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
He has been declared an absconder.
Prasad is a professional body builder who had won the Junior Mister Kerala (1994), Mister Calicut University (thrice) titles.
He was chased and nabbed by a police team led by Aluva CI Jayakrishnan, following a tip-off received by DySP R. Salim.
